Why do we fall, sir?

Batman Begins. Go see it. A damned fine film. I love a good back-story. It also reinvigorates the character after the slap-dash Batman & Robin many years ago. The characters are all believable—which is hard to do in a comic book movie. The villains, while villainous, have real motives...and some even have good intentions. It's a dark movie with great ideals. While I'm semi-looking forward to The Fantastic Four, I'm not expecting those ideals. We'll see. But Batman Begins does it right.

So if you haven't seen it, do. Let's encourage this type of storytelling.

And the ninth episode of Escapee is up. Check it out, if you're bored.

Excellent movie. Might be my favorite of the Batman movies (and I'm a fan of Burton's that started the whole franchise). I'd had doubts about Christian Bale, but he turned in an excellent performance. And I loved Michael Caine as Alfred. The relationship between the butler and the billionaire was real and touching without seeming maudlin. I can't really say anything else without spoilers, so I'll shut up now.

The trailers for the Fantastic Four make it seem like they went for almost a campy feel - or at least a more over-the-top comic book action feel. I'm already annoyed with Johnny, just from having seen so much of him in the trailer. I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable: I just want Ben Grimm to be done well. I always liked the character and found his storylines interesting to follow.

Just saw Batman Begins last night. I would agree that it is the best Batman film, and does an excellent job bringing the character back inline with his comic book depiction. Still think Spiderman is my favorite superhero movie, though. And I am eagerly looking forward to Fantastic Four (or maybe I'm just looking forward to Jessica Alba ;) ).

See, it was the Alba casting that ruined the sense of anticipation I had for a Fantastic Four movie. I'm a little leery of Nick Cage as Ghost Rider, too, but I'm sure hoping that'll be a great translation of graphic novel to film.

If the Spiderman movies ever move the character past his feelings of angst, then they'll probably move up my list of favorites. But even though both movies were fun, the emotional parts of the stories were so much of the same thing that I found myself disappointed in them. I don't know -- maybe I set impossible standards! *hee*

I agree with Lara regarding the Fantastic Four. Probably my *main* interest in this movie is the screenwriter: Mark Frost. Author of one of my favorite books of all time: The List of 7. Although from the trailers the dialogue doesn't sound particularly fresh.

Well, it's funny that we say that they might be going for a "campy" F4, seeing that the comic in itself always seemed a bit campy to me. I mean.. anything where a guy's power is that he stretches around is just kinda silly. There's no way to make a stretchy guy look serious or ever really threatening.

As for Batman, I"m a huge Batman fan, and do agree that this newest movie is by far the best. Watching the Tim Burton one, I remember how cool it was when I saw it, but it doesn't age well for me... seems really strange to see it now. I think this new one had really good character depth, and also had the best portrayal of Bruce Wayne to date (barring the Batman: the Animated Series version).

Absolutely. George Clooney certainly never fit the bill!

Yeah, I agree about Christian Bale being the best Bruce Wayne to date.

I just heard about Ghost Rider, and think Cage would be a good Johnny Blaze. GR is my all-time favorite superhero. I used to go to the library in 3rd grade every week in the summer just to read his comics. I own both the first appearance of the original Ghost Rider and his first self-titled comic. Someone recently asked me why I liked him so much. I think it was the fact that he could make a motorcycle out of hellfire.

I fell in love with Wolverine for the same reasons. Any 2-page splash of one guy against a wall of ninjas was good enough for me. :)
